Match Report: Broughton XV - 48 vs Bury 2 XV - 7
Location: Broughton, Yew Street
For this fixture Broughton 2s v Bury 2s the conditions were dry but the pitch was soft. The Broughton team went through a very positive warmup, so approached the game with optimism.
Bury kicked off and Broughton received well and took the game to Bury, Broughton re-cycled the ball with pace and were unlucky not to put points on the board early.
Bury enjoyed some possession and kept the ball close to the forwards, but Broughton’s defense held firm. The Broughton line moved forward very well and put Bury under pressure, some fantastic play at the rucks gained Broughton some valuable possession. Some very impressive tackling and then support play gained Broughton several penalties. Really good play from the Broughton team.
Broughton now started to put Bury under some real pressure, the forwards were working very hard creating quick ball and the half backs put it to good use. The ball handling amongst the Broughton backs was very impressive. After this period the points started to come, by half time Broughton had gained a good foot hold in the game.
Broughton started the 2nd half in a positive mood and the ball was being moved with great pace and accuracy. The set piece was working well and Bury now started to tire. Broughton started to gain in confidence and started to introduce the replacements and the performance only lifted.
Bury to their credit never gave in, they kept carrying the ball hard at Broughton’s defence, Broughton’s defensive line held firm throughout the 80 minutes. Great commitment and spirit from the team. Broughton’s ball handling and fitness for the 80 minutes was of a very high standard.
Bury secured their only points from a penalty try awarded for too many penalties conceded in the red zone.
Final score 48-7 win for Broughton

Man of the match must have been a difficult decision for Kyle, the whole team put in a massive performance which led to a great day of rugby for the boy’s. Alex McKay did enough to gain the converted hard hat.
